What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. Counsellors and psychotherapists are trained professionals who will work with you to explore your internal world; thoughts patterns, behaviours and ideas to help you develop a better understanding of yourself and others.

Therapists are impartial meaning they will listen to you without judgement and work with your emotions without becoming emotional themselves. Therapists don’t tell you what to do. Instead, they explore your thoughts and options with you helping you understand your situation and options more clearly - whether for making effective changes or for learning how to cope. There are several different types of therapy and therapist. It’s important to find a therapist and a way of working that works for you

Psychodynamic therapy

My style of working is psychodynamic. In its simplest form, this involves thinking about how your past impacts your current lived experience. In our sessions, we won't just look at the symptoms you feel today. We'll look at the roots—how your early experiences shaped your current world—so you can make conscious choices instead of repeating old patterns.
