The biggest difference is that I work with the past and the present. Many approaches focus solely on the 'now,' but I work psychodynamically, which means we look at how your history and the world around you—including class, gender, race, culture, and identity—shape your present.
I’ve spent years working in high-pressure environments like University College London and the NHS, so I understand the clinical complexities of trauma.
Therapy is most effective when it feels human, collaborative, and grounded. I offer a space where you can bring your whole self—your heritage, your struggles, and your ambitions—without fear of judgment or having to explain the nuances of your upbringing or cultural background
-
The Short Answer: We focus on the past to understand your present.
The Deeper Answer: While our sessions aren't a "blame game" directed at your upbringing, our early experiences act as a blueprint for how we navigate relationships, work, and self-worth today. If you find yourself repeating the same patterns—choosing similar partners, feeling the same "stuck" emotions, or struggling with the same insecurities—those answers usually live in your history. We look back so that you can move forward with more freedom and less baggage.
-
The Short Answer: We go beneath the surface.
The Deeper Answer: Many modern therapies (like CBT) are wonderful for managing symptoms in the short term—like learning breathing techniques for anxiety. Psychodynamic therapy is different; it’s an exploration of the source of that anxiety. I work with you to uncover the unconscious motivations and "blind spots" that drive your behavior. It’s the difference between putting a plaster on a wound and actually cleaning and healing the wound from the inside out.
-
The Short Answer: Because you don’t live in a vacuum.
The Deeper Answer: Your mental health is inextricably linked to your identity—your race, gender, sexuality, and class. In our sessions, I recognise that your distress may not just be "internal," but a response to external systems, microaggressions, or generational trauma. My background in racial trauma and identity means you don’t have to exhaust yourself explaining the "why" behind your cultural lived experience. I hold that context with you, providing a space where your whole identity is seen, respected, and integrated into the healing process.
